someone’s got to do it

So Saturday I got a new car. It cost me 87 cents more than the check from the insurance company. I feel like I did okay overall. As I said it’s the same car I had before but gold instead of black. It’s cute and I love it. I need to decide what to name it. She might be Mendoza, but I’m not 100% sure yet.

Last night we had Sunday dinner, like we do, but a bunch of folks came and it turned into a somewhat beer soaked summer porch party. It was fun. I like Tennessee.

Today I took my car back to the dealership for new tires and new brakes. They gave me an 05 Impala to drive while they have my car. I hate it. It’s seriously like the least sexy car ever. Totally a gramma car. How could do that to the Impala, Chevy, how?

Tomorrow my 14 year old sister gets here for a ten day visit. Which means I won’t be online at all, or maybe I’ll be online a lot depending on what she wants to do. She’s usually pretty happy playing on her laptop and IMing her friends, but I want to some fun stuff while she’s here too.

It’s gross, really gross, but isn’t Dirty Jobs is really the best thing on TV. Oh, Mike Rowe, why aren’t there like a million of you? Or you know, I’d settle for two or three if one of your clones lived up the street from me and was in love with me.

I have bug bites EVERYWHERE. Must be summer in Tennessee.

  1. OMG have you been out to the Dirty Jobs fansite? His brain is every bit as sexy as the rest of him. Hubba freakin’ hubba.

  2. Mike Rowe rocks!! I still haven’t figured out how to get him to my house for a dirty job yet but I am working on it.

  3. Mendoza! YES! Again, a most emphatic yes to the naming of your car Mendoza! Speaking of which, I really need to figure out which books I haven’t read. Without you here, I am at a loss as to where I am.

Yay! For younger sisters coming to visit (especially your younger sister!).

  4. I don’t know if I can go. I’ve read some bios and interviews with him a while back and it’s like almost too much. He’s just GUH perfect!

  5. Yes, last night we were all yelling at the TV, “Hey, Mike, I’ve got a dirty job for you!” And then he’d say, “I’ll come get dirty with you.” And then we’d laugh like school girls. The naked in shower shots, and him saying stuff on air like, “I’m dirty, dirty boy” and “suck it, c’mon, suck it.” It’s like they know EXACTLY what they are doing.

  6. AHAHAHAHAH! I love it. I do that here all by myself and the husband looks at me like I’ve lost my mind.

  7. I know! Isn’t my sister great?!?! I can’t wait for her to get here.

As for the car, yes, it’s the only name resonating with me right now.

As for the books, I THINK You’ve read:

In The Garden of Iden (1997)
    Sky Coyote (1999)
    Mendoza in Hollywood (2000)
    The Graveyard Game (2001)
Black Projects, White Knights: The Company Dossiers (2002)
The Life of the World to Come (2004)

    And still need to read:

The Children of the Company (2005)
    The Machine’s Child (2006)
The Sons of Heaven (forthcoming July 2007)

    Short stories:
    Gods and Pawns (2007)
    Rude Mechanicals (2007)

I might be wrong about “The Life of the World to Come” though. I guess you could go to Amazon and read the reviews and figure it out. Maybe? 🙂

  8. I am pretty sure that you’re right, but I’ll go look.

    Have fun with your sister!

  9. Oh honey, I’m glad it worked out with the car. I just read the “it’s totalled” post, and then clicked to see what I’ve missed in the week since. Still really grateful you’re not injured.

  10. I’m glad you’re liking it in Tennessee but damn, I wish you were still in Seattle. Why? Because that’s where I am right now. I’m in a cute little mother-in-law apartment in Wallingford and the weather is fuckin’ FANTASTIC and the mountains and the Sound and Uwajimaya and the…well, the everything. I love it here. I’m still planning on living here again, though it’s still going to be a while before I can do that.

    Anyway…wish you were here.
