I never make resolutions on the New Year. Or rather, I never mean to make them, but some always pop into my head (though often as not, pop out again immediately). Never original and usually on the theme of being a better person: being a kinder, more generous person, being more flexible in how I live my life, more open to the possibilities of the universe, etc. I don’t know that I’ve ever exactly acheived any of these things, but I can’t say that I haven’t either. Even though I’m fairly introspective (that is to say, more I guess, than your average joe) it takes me a very long time to see changes in myself. Indeed, perhaps by the time I notice it I’ve already changed more and can’t see that change yet. Anyway, um, what am I on about? YAY! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
For the last song of the year I present Solomon Burke singing a duet with Dolly Parton of her “Tomorrow is Forever.”
Tomorrow is Forever – Solomon Burke featuring Dolly Parton (click to download)
Take my hand and run with me
Out of the past of yesterday
And walk with me into the future of tomorrow
Yesterday must be forgot
No looking back no matter what
There’s nothing there but mem’ries that bring sorrow
Yesterday is gone, gone, but tomorrow is forever
No more crying tears leave tracks
And mem’ries find their way back
Tomorrow’s waiting let’s journey there together
Yesterday is gone, gone, but tomorrow is forever
I care not for yesterday I love you as you are today
Yesterday just helped to pass the time while waiting
We must forget the passing time
My love for you is the real kind
The kind that won’t hurt you, oh never
Yesterday is gone, gone, but tomorrow is forever
Yesterday is gone, gone, but tomorrow is forever
